Saturday evening lecture time change

Saturday evening's lecture, by Prof. emeritus Eileen
Barker (LSE) will now take place at 7.30 instead of
8 as previously announced. The title of the lecture
is "Cults, sects and / or new religions: 'Curioser and
curioser!' cried Alice. 'Well, yes and no,' replied the
sociologist…"

Admission for non-conference participants is €15, or
€10 with student / unwaged etc. ID.

Food and clothing

All meals are provided as part of conference registration, and there are shops, including a supermarket, chemist etc. within a short walk of campus for most things you might need.

Maynooth campus is notoriously muddy and badly organised for pedestrians; at the moment anyone coming to the conference venue has to walk along a road used by the machines on a building site, which makes things particularly unpleasant underfoot. We recommend wearing "stout, sensible" shoes.

For the Sunday bus tour, which will involve us being outdoors in the Irish weather, bring raingear and boots or shoes.

Conference accommodation

Rooms can be booked on campus via Maynooth's Conference and Accommodation service.

Maynooth is a small town in a rural area, so it's important to check before booking whether accommodation is within walking distance. The Glenroyal hotel is close; Carton House is somewhat more distant but still walkable. Two B&Bs within walking distance are Celtic Lodge and Aaronbeg.

Maynooth is only 35 - 45 minutes from Dublin by train (trains are frequent and run until late) so another option is to stay in Dublin, ideally within walking distance of Connolly Station (where there are several hostels, such as Isaac's and the An Oige (YHA) hostel, as well as hotels, such as the North Star and Wynn's) or Drumcondra (good for B&Bs in particular - too many to list but easily found online).
